Jaime Rosales
Program Coordinator
Poetry and soccer coach Jaime Rosales has a long history with America SCORES Bay Area. He first joined SCORES as a fourth-grader at El Dorado Elementary in San Francisco where he discovered the poetry within hip hop and the deep connection a group of kids can experience on the soccer field.
Jaime had moved to San Francisco from Mexico as a baby. At 19, with the support of a local nonprofit, Chalk, he received his visa and began the work journey that would lead back to SCORES. “Everything changed for me, doors opened,” Jaime says. One of Jaime’s mentors at Chalk connected him to SCORES’ Roberto Gil, who invited Jaime to attend a coach training. After rejoining SCORES as a volunteer, Jaime was hired as a paid coach.
Today Jaime works with students at Sanchez, John Muir, Moscone, and Cleveland elementary schools. “In a lot of students, I see myself. We share similar kinds of experiences and backgrounds. My goal is to give them as much direction as possible and to be there for them. I want them to feel comfortable being themselves and to have a vision for the future. Things can be hard, but they always have a friend and supporter in me and SCORES.
